State police issue alert on fraudulent calls | Local News

ST. ALBANS – Vermont State Police issued a public alert on Friday after receiving several reports that residents of Vermont had received phone calls claiming to be from the St. Albans fire station and requesting personal information.

“The phone number that appears on the Caller ID is the correct phone number for the St. Albans Barracks, 802-524-5993, but these calls are not coming from the state police,” he said. VSP spokesperson Adam Silverman said in a press release. “It is important to note that calls from the State Police do not display the publicly accessible phone numbers of each barracks, but instead the caller ID indicates a general exchange from the Department of public safety. ”

The VSP reminded people to never disclose personal information to unknown or suspicious callers. If there are questions about the legitimacy of a call, people should hang up, search for the correct phone number and contact the agency or department directly to verify the request, police said.

People are encouraged to report suspicious calls to the Vermont Attorney General’s office at 800-649-2424 or [email protected], or through the AG’s website at
