King’s Careers & Employability (KC&E) facilitates excellent career management and employability services supporting our students and alumni, enabling them to develop effective professional skills and create a platform for their future success.

The department’s Student Careers Engagement (SCE) team helps students at all levels of the institution, as well as alumni, access information, advice, events, opportunities and online learning in order to to help them in their career path. As a team, we work specifically to address industry and institution-wide factors and barriers that contribute to differences in progression among students from under-represented backgrounds.

We are part of the Students and Education Branch, a large-scale professional service suite established to support King’s students and their education. As a leadership, we manage the student life cycle, from application to graduation and beyond, to ensure a cohesive and transparent student experience and efficient administrative processes, working closely with faculties of King to do this.

About the role

We are recruiting a Project Manager to coordinate the project activity in King’s Careers & Employability. The incumbent will be responsible for implementing new initiatives such as a central professional mentoring program, as well as other small projects or areas of work, including student voice and feedback activities.

The incumbent will work closely with students who have had an experience of historical under-representation in higher education, to enable them to make the most of their career education and employability journey throughout. throughout their stay at King’s and beyond.

They will oversee and facilitate various projects that underpin the work of the SCE team, which will include managing a network of student and alumni ambassadors, partners and mentors, to further enhance the student experience. This is an exciting new role that will be essential in driving the new student career engagement strategy.

Main responsibilities

  • Facilitate a large portfolio of projects focused on student engagement, student feedback, systems and data.
  • Planning and development of a professional mentoring program. Lead the recruitment and training of mentors, mentees, volunteers, advisory board members, partners, co-collaborators and co-creators.
  • Oversee ongoing projects such as the Student Career Advisory Council and projects related to our feedback plan.
  • Collect, make sense of and act on feedback from our students, to identify gaps, needs and priority areas. Work closely with the team to collect and analyze data and research, with the goal of evaluating and adjusting program plans as needed.
  • Establish and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, helping colleagues to create inclusive practices and cultures for working with students. Collaborate with broader colleagues from KC&E and several colleges on various initiatives including mentoring and co-creation activities.
  • Plan, organize and coordinate activities such as trainings, workshops, “lunch and learns”, mixers and other events, in order to enhance and support collaborative work and co-creation.

Skills, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria

  • Confident communicator, able to work well with people of all skill levels.
  • Experience building relationships with and between individuals to collaborate on common goals.
  • Ability to analyze and review qualitative and quantitative data, interpret results and communicate information to colleagues.
  • Understand how the lived experience of historically under-represented groups is affected by structural inequalities.
  • Experience in implementing and maintaining administrative processes and procedures.
  • The ability to work under tight deadlines with competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of how to design and facilitate small scale engagement events / projects / activities.

Desirable criteria

  • Experience in evaluating the impact of a project or program.
  • Experience in managing a program or project.
  • Experience in formal mentoring programs as a mentor and / or mentee.
