“The vast majority of them are not useful,” he admitted. “But it’s these nuggets, these little bits in there that could be someone who – obviously this vehicle drove a few thousand miles back here to North Port. He didn’t do it with just one tank of gas.
Taylor was also asked on Friday about any potential ground grid research in the west, particularly in Teton County, Wyoming. Petito’s last known location was Grand Teton National Park, officials said.

“Certainly the North Port Police Department is not going over there to do a ground search, it just doesn’t make sense,” Taylor said. “By working with people, I can’t even necessarily confirm what those authorities are doing there. We work closely with the Tampa FBI and they work with the Denver area FBI so that may or may not happen. Taylor said he spoke with Petito’s father, Joseph Petito, and felt for the family. Gabby Petito has been officially missing since September 11, but her last known contact with family members was in late August, when she was on a trip across the country with her fiance Brian Laundrie.

Laundrie, now a person of interest, returned home alone in the van the couple were traveling with on September 1 and retained the services of a lawyer, police said. Petito’s family publicly called on Laundrie’s family this week to release any information they may have about Gabby Petito’s location. “They are tortured right now by the potential of someone having information and not relaying it,” Taylor said. “It’s just awful.
