“I’m afraid some people don’t even care”: restaurant owner says new system is another obstacle

This is not how Nick Pontikis wants to end the year or start 2022.

“I don’t know what to do about my New Years now. We had plans, we had mostly reserved the room and now I have to tell people that you can’t come in because I’m limited to 50 percent, ”says Greek restaurant owner Thanasis.

Ontario announced changes to the proof of vaccination system.

Starting next year, the province will require people to use their QR code and the Verify Ontario app, in settings where proof of vaccination is required.

“Happy New Year to restaurateurs. It seems that dining in restaurants is the most affected by all the regulations, ”said Pontikis.

He says changes to the proof of vaccination system could slow business even further.

“I’m afraid some people don’t even care, even if they are fully vaccinated.”

The QR code can be used digitally or by printing a hard copy.

Pontikis told CTV News that the vast majority of its customers do not use the QR code.

“I would say nine out of 10 people use paper. “

The new proof of vaccination system will come into effect on January 4.

“I am not against vaccines, I am against the obstacles constantly placed in front of restaurant-restaurants,” Pontikis said.
