California says there will be no more restaurant capacity or physical distance limits starting June 15

California is approaching a pivotal moment since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic over a year ago. On May 21, California officials announced that the state would reopen completely without restrictions on June 15. As the first state to officially shelter-in-place, California will revert to zero restrictions on indoor and outdoor capacity limits and physical distance in restaurants and bars. in the next three weeks.

California Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr Mark Ghaly said California will no longer need pandemic-related restraints, resulting in the state’s full reopening, reports the LA Times. With half of Californians fully vaccinated and remarkably low COVID-19 infection / death rates, Ghaly believes the state is ready. The color-coded system used to track the pandemic will no longer be used.

In recent weeks, government agencies have shifted their stance on COVID-19 restrictions. Governor Gavin Newsom announced the reopening date of June 15 from April. In early May, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said fully vaccinated people can stop wearing masks and walk away from society, but Los Angeles County officials made it clear they were not. still ready to align with the federal agency.

More changes will come after the Division of Occupational Safety and Health or Cal / OSHA updated California’s labor rules in early June. LAist reports that the state agency – which sets safety rules for employers across California – may allow workers vaccinated without symptoms of COVID-19 to no longer wear masks if workers do not have symptoms.

After June 15, expect to see the following in restaurants and bars across the state:

  • Bars, restaurants, concert halls and grocery stores can operate at full indoor and outdoor capacity.
  • California will use CDC guidelines for fully immunized people who will not be required to wear masks except for public transportation, flights, and when visiting health care facilities.
  • Physical distance requirements will not be required at public and private events.
  • Large venues, such as sports arenas and performance stages, will no longer have a capacity limit. But a vaccine check or a negative test will be required for indoor events with more than 5,000 people, and vaccine verification or negative test will be recommended for outdoor events with 10,000 or more people.
  • People traveling within the state will not be required to isolate or quarantine.

Until June 15, LA County restaurants will maintain their 50% capacity requirements indoors and outdoors, as well as six feet between tables. Restaurant workers will continue to wear masks and face shields, and restaurant staff will appreciate no longer having to play masks with customers. This very well means that for the first time in 15 months you might see restaurant and bar employees working without masks, although establishments are likely to continue to encourage their employees to mask themselves if they wish. .
